        THE RETURN TO AMERICA

M      [ R. LORILLARD    spent the season of i899 in
       America, but while his best horses had been
sent to England, he was not long in collecting some
horses to carry the "cherry" jacket at home. He pur-
chased of Mr. Madden for 25,000 the bay colt David
Purchase of  Garrick, 2 years, by Hanover, from
David Garrick  Peg Woffington, also the two-year-old
             Maribert from Mr. Fleischman, and
these, with  Albula, Petrea, Prima, Salamis, and
