Largely through the efforts of hrs. henry Made hegers,
Treasurer of the National American noman Suffrage Association, a
reselunion endorsing woman suffrage was adopted by the New ierk Lastern
Conference of the nethodist episcopal Church in Brooklyn on npril eighth.
This conference is perhaps the most powerful body in the fellows ip of.
this church and as other smaller eastern conferences in this denomination
has passed resolutions endorsing the cause, suffrrgists feel safe in
counting-on the support of some thousands of methodists in the east.

Coming from a family which has long been a leudgr in this
denomination, hrs. fiOgers took a personal responsibility in writing
and telegraphing to the leading bid ops and ministers who were to we
present at the conference urging t ,t they should go on record in
favor of equal suffrage. .

"I wanted them to refute the statement s metines
ministers and churches are opposed to the novenent,"said

"and l believed that the Methodist denomination was ready
stand in favor of,this'great progressive movement of women."

Rev. C. L. Barthelow of heunt Vernon read the resolution which
was greeted with applause and when adopted it was signed by Dr. Bartholow,
Elmer s. Dent, Rev. William L. ioeinson, Rev. ' 1. Flint, hiram

H. henderson and Rev. D. Davidson. fit was as follows:—

"Believing that equal suffrage is in the logic of
bemocracy to which our nation stands eonmitted,

it would benefit women, as is demonstrated by.th;‘
and nations adopting it!

"Therefore, Be it Resolved, that we, the oembers
of the New York East Conference, are in favor of the
extenStdn of the suffrage to include all sane, law—
abiding citizens of both sexes, and hope that in the
November election the proposed amendment to the New
York Constitution to this effect will find the hosts

of methodism solidly lined up in its favor."
