Members, Board of Trustees:

                          PROFESSORSHIP NAME CHANGE

Recommendation: that the Board of Trustees approve changing the name of the Pharmaceutical
Technology Lectureship/Professorship/Chair Endowed Fund to the Patrick P. DeLuca
Pharmaceutical Technology Professorship in the College of Pharmacy.

In accordance with the Council on Postsecondary Education guidelines, the Board of Trustees
acknowledges that it has primary responsibility for the implementation of the Endowment Match
Program and is responsible for providing oversight of all endowment funds.

Background: The Board of Trustees approved establishing the Pharmaceutical Technology
Lectureship/Professorship/Chair in Pharmaceutical Sciences in August 2001. The College of
Pharmacy desires to rename the professorship in honor of Patrick P. DeLuca, Ph.D. to recognize
his distinguished career as a nationally and internationally renowned pharmaceutical science and
technology educator. Dr. DeLuca, a principal contributor to the endowment and member of the
College of Pharmacy faculty, is a UK Sullivan Award recipient.

The gifts of Dr. DeLuca and others were matched by the state's Research Challenge Trust Fund
to create a $114,000 endowment. The College of Pharmacy plans to continue fund raising to
achieve the goal of creating a $1 million endowed chair.
