the above purposes, or the promotion of the general chari-
table purposes of the Institution of -Masonry. And there is
hereby reserved to the Legislature, the power to alter or re-
peal this Act.

  The organization of the Grand Lodge of Illinois being
acknowledged, Ottawa Lodge, No. 114, and Joliet Lodge, U. D.,
in that State, were dismissed from this jurisdiction and recom-
mended to the G. L. of Illinois.
  The subject of an Orphan's Asylum having come up from
the Committee of last year, it was decided that the whole
matter be referred to the subordinate lodges for their consid-
eration, and a report made thereupon next year. The points
upon which the subordinates were to decide, are, 1st, Are you
in favor of any general system of education by the (G. L.
2nd, If so, what plan will you sanction 3d, How much will
you subscribe
  Ordered, that the Annual Communications of this Grand
Lodge shall hereafter be held in the Grand Hall in the City
of Lexington.
  Upon an application to the Grand Lodge for reinstatement
from a person formerly expelled from Lodge, No. 95, the G.
L. decided " that subordinate lodges alone have jurisdiction of
matters of this kind," and referred it to the lodge interested.
Simpson Lodge, No. 31, in view of a disastrous loss they had
experienced by fire in 1837, were excused all arrearages of
dues.
  The Committee on Foreign Correspondence, (through W. S.
Pilcher,) had received the Proceedings of seventeen G. Lodges
but give no details. The proceedings, they say, give pleasing
evidence of the prosperity and steady advance of Masonry in
our sister States.
  Upon the application of No. 101, to surrender its Charter,
the (G. L. decided that it was the privilege of any lodge to
give up its Charter at its own discretion, but that the strictly
Constitutional method must be pursued.
  The Committee to prepare a Digest of the Constitution aud
By-Laws appointed at a previous Session, was allowed another
year in which to prepare their Report.
  Charters were ordered to Mills Point Lodge, No. 120, at
Hickman, Ky.; and Cadiz Lodge, No. 121, at Cadiz, Ky.
  The Grand Masonic Hall was solemnly dedicated to Masonry
according to ancient form and usage, Sept. 1.
  The revenue of the Grand Lodge was 1,160.00.
  The Building Committee made an elaborate Report, of
which the following is an abstract: They had received the
