and relating the history of a number
of traditional ballads which she had
collected.
Miss Ncwcomb was accompanied
by Prof. Carl Lamport, head of the
music department. She sang many
selections from various types of ancient ballads selected from her compilation of two hundred which she
Intends to publish In the near future. Her book with the original
ballad music will be entitled "Songs
My Mother Sans."
A number of the ballads date
back from the time of Queen Elizabeth until the present. Among the
numbers which Miss

MEACIIAM'S FATHER DIES
Professor Meacham, of the geology department, has received word
of the death of his father at Newman, Ga. Mr. Meacham received
the message at Pinevllle while returning from a survey in North
Carolina. Mr. Meacham had been
suffering from heart trouble for
about a year previous to his death.

Watson returned Tuesday from Dayton, Ohio, where they went to take
on examination for an aviation appointment to Kelly field In Texas.
From reports the examination

have made perfect examinations.
If the appointments are made and
are accepted, the two boys will report to the training school at Kelly
field, San Antonio, Texas, July 1,

they are graduated they will be
remain in the United
States Flying Corps for two years.
