32 UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY
The instructor shall keep a record of absences for each student. When, in
his opinion, the number of absences for any student becomes excessive or ap-
pears to be unjustified, he shall report such student to the dean concerned. A
student may be dropped from a course for excessive absences by the Registrar
upon recommendation of the dean and the instructor. When a student is so
dropped, the instructor shall report the grade the student is making at the
time he is dropped.
Any student absent from class on the day immediately preceding or fol- ·
lowing a holiday shall have a penalty of one credit and one quality point added
to his requirements for graduation.
Absences due to officially authorized trips, such as those of athletic teams;
musical, oratorical, and dramatic organizations; and University classes, shall be
considered as being excused absences. The faculty member in charge of an
authorized trip shall give to each student concerned a statement to present
to his teachers certifying that the absence is ollicial.
No report of absences shall be required for graduate students. Any under-
graduate student whose standing on the work of the previous semester is 2.4
or better, upon application to the Registrar, shall be extended the same privi-
lege relative to absences as graduate students.
Conduct. In issuing rules for the regulation of the affairs of the University
and the govemment of its students, it is not deemed necessary to set out details.
The University expects all students to hold to the strictest standards of honesty
in all University work and to conduct themselves in a decorous manner, bearing
in mind that their conduct determines in a large measure the reputation of the
institution.
The Marking System. Results of work will be recorded in the Registrar’s
Office as follows:
A—Exceptionally high quality, valued at 3 points for each credit.
B — Good, valued at 2 points for each credit.
C — Fair, valued at 1 point for each credit.
D—Unsatisfactory, indicates a deficiency and gives no points but gives
credit for graduation if with such credits the student's standing is
1 or more.
E — Failure, valued at 0 credits and 0 points.
I — Incomplete.
X — Absent from examination.
WP — Withdrew, passing.
WF — Withdrew, failing.
S—Satisfactory work in progress (Graduate independent work courses
only).
A grade of E means that normally the work must be taken over in class
to be credited. Exceptions to this rule may be made, on showing of undue
hardship, but only to the extent of permitting the work to be taken over by
correspondence, and only with the permission of the dean of the college in
which the student is enrolled. It will be made sparingly, it being the policy
not to allow credit toward a degree for correspondence work in courses in
which the student has received a grade of E and which he can repeat or could
have repeated in class while in residence.
