1 This lock was completed in December 1857. It was first if
1 privately operated by the Navigation Company, later trans- 1
1 ferred to and operated by the state of Kentucky, and finally 1
1 sold to the Federal Government in 1879. All records prior to S
1957 were destroyed by the flood of that year. The office directs 1 1
traffic through the lockwand sends reports on daily activities I _;
