Louisville was a Union stronghold during the Civil War and the headquarters of Brigadier General Jeremiah T. Boyle who served as the military governor of Kentucky from 1862 until the death of his son William O. Boyle in 1864.
The collection consists of the muster roll of the Headquarters of the U.S. forces in Kentucky. The muster roll from the headquarters, which was in Louisville, lists Brigadier General Jeremiah T. Boyle, Captain John Boyle, Captain Thomas D. Fitch, Lieutenant Edward Hughes, and Lieutenant William O. Boyle.
