Adams, Calhoun Sweep Honors At Banquet
Kentucky All-SEC stars George Adams   and   Paul   Calhoun either
shared or won four of the eight Wildcat awards last week at the club's annual
SEC vs. Non-League Competition
In the final regular season weekend of 1984, SEC members split against non-league foes with Florida defeating Florida State 27-17 in Tallahassee and Georgia losing 35-18 to Georgia Tech in Athens. The SEC ends the year with a 36-13-2 non-conference record good for a success rate of 72.5 percent. The SEC is 14-7 vs. Southern Independents, 3-0 vs. the Pac-10, 2-0 vs. the Western Athletic, 2-1 vs. the Big-8, 4-2 vs. the Atlantic Coast, 3-1-1 vs. Eastern Independents, 1-0 vs. the Big-10, 1-0 vs. the Mid-American, 1-0 vs. the Missouri Valley, 2-0 vs. the Southland, 3-1 vs. Midwestern Independents and 0-1-1 vs. the Southwest.

Adams and Calhoun were selected co-winners of the Kentucky "Most Valuable Senior" award. Both had outstanding seasons and were the leaders in Kentucky's great 8-3 season record.
For his outstanding offensive contributions, Adams won the "Best Defensive Back" trophy while Calhoun won the "Kicking" award for his 44.5 yards per punt average. The senior punter-defensive safety shared the '' Best Defensive Back'' award for 1984 with linebacker Cam Jacobs.

Dave McClain
Dave McClain enters his seventh season at Wisconsin after being named Wisconsin's 24th head coach on December 16, 1977.
The 46-year-old McClain, a native of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and a 1960 graduate of Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, came to Wisconsin from a highly successful coaching stint at Ball State, where he posted an overall 46-25-3 record in seven seasons.
His overall 80-57-3 record for thirteen seasons as a head coach ranks him among the nation's Top Twenty coaches entering 1984. That's a winning percentage of .581.

Sandusky High School and Bowling Green University, where his team went 45-5-4. He played both quarterback and safety at Bowling Green.
He started his coaching career at Crestline, Ohio High School with an 8-1 record and then returned to Bowling Green as a graduate assistant in 1961, where he served as freshmen offensive coach and earned his Master's Degree in Education.
He then served as an assistant coach at Cornell University under Tom Harp in 1962; at Miami (Ohio) University under Glenn E. "Bo" Schembechler, 1963-66; at Kansas under Pepper Rodgers, 1967-68; and at Ohio State under W.W. "Woody" Hayes in 1969 and 1970 before accepting the head coaching job at Ball State.
He coached seven seasons at Ball State, with only his first a loser at 4-5-1. He was named Mid-American Conference "Coach of the Year" in 1975 after a 9-2 season. His three year MAC record of 13-4 included the 1976 conference title.
In his first season with the Badgers, he became the first coach since Ivan Williamson in 1949 to post a winning mark as a first year coach. Those 1978 Badgers opened with four straight wins and finished at 5-4-2; the first winning season since 1974. The next two seasons proved to be a little tougher as his 1979 and 1980 squads posted identical 4-7-0 marks.

7-5-0 including the first Bowl appearance for a Wisconsin team since the 1962 season. Their 6-3-0 Big Ten record was good for a third place tie, and included wins over national powers Michigan and Ohio State. The Badgers lost to Tennessee 28-21 in the Garden State Bowl.
In 1982, Dave became the first coach in Wisconsin history to guide the Badgers to back-to-back Bowl games and accomplished what no other Wisconsin coach was able to do  win a post-season Bowl game. The Badgers won a 14-3 decision from Kansas State in the 1982 Independence Bowl to cap a second consecutive 7-5 season, which included the first victory over Ohio State in Columbus since 1918.
And in 1983, the Badgers posted their third consecutive seven-win season under McClain with a final mark of 7-4. Wisconsin also turned in its third straight winning Big Ten campaign at 5-4.
Dave has also served as an assistant coach in the Hula (1982) and Japan (1983) Bowl games, and was an assistant coach in the Blue-Gray game in Montgomery, AL in 1983.
Dave and his wife, the former Judy Perry, have three children -son Tom 18, and daughters Mindy 16 and Marcy 13.

Pietrowiak, who has earlier earned honors in making the Academic All-SEC team, was named the team's "Best Offensive Lineman" for 1984.

Hero" by his teammates. Senior Frank Hare and junior Brian Williams tied for the "Best Defensive Lineman" award.
Earlier, Adams and Calhoun was cited for their outstanding play by being selected to the Associated Press' ALL-SEC team. Adams rushed for 1,085 yards'in a great finish to a brilliant career.
Calhoun, likewise, finished in a flash of glory while tearing apart opposing teams' offenses and giving the Wildcats' defense excellent field position with his great punting.
Harden Suspended For SMU Game
Junior guard Roger Harden was suspended for the SMU game due to missing a team's practice session.
Harden who started in Kentucky's first two contests, missed practice Sunday following the Purdue loss. Against Toledo, the Valparaiso, Ind., native poured in 11 points and dished out 5 assist while playing 33 minutes. The 6-foot-2 point guard scored only two points in 19 minutes of action in the Purdue ballgame.
Harden was eligible for the Indiana game December 8 in Bloomington.
