Biography/History

Elizabeth Hardwick was an American literary critic and novelist, born in Lexington, Kentucky. A 1939 graduate of the University of Kentucky, Harwick was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship in 1947 and spent much of her life in New York City where she published and taught writing.

Scope and Content

Letter to poet Richard Eberhart concerns a potential review in the New York Review of Books for a book by John Hall Wheelock. Hardwick replies to the inquiry, "We haven't worked out anything yet about the fall issues. I can't say, when we go into the smaller size, whether we'd have space for a review of that book, alone, or not."
