SENIOR TRIP.
TIio seniors In Mechanical mid Hlcc-trlcEngineering will leave on the

annual engineering inspection trip to
Chicago and vicinity March 25. The
party will bo In chargo of Professor
W. B. Freeman.
Miss Margaret
will mako the trip with tho othor
twenty-twengineers, and will go with
them to all the places inspected. Mrs.
Noll H. Turner, secretary to Professor Anderson, will accompany Miss
Ingcls.
Other members of tho party will be
Professor Anderson, Professor Frank-el- ,
Mr. Joseph Dicker and Mr. John
Dicker.
Tho party will leavo Lexington on a
special sleeper, arriving in Chicago
Monday, and go directly to the
Palmer House which will bo the headquarters during tho week.
On Monday the party will visit tho
Indiana Steel Company's plant at
Gary, Indiana.
This is one of the
largest steel plants in the world and
is at present working to full capacity.
Tuesday morning will bo spent in a
trip on Lake Michigan in ono of the
city tug boats to several of the intake
cribs of the water supply system. Two
of the city pumping stations will also
be visited, andi later, the Northwest
station of the Commonwealth Edison
Company, one of the largest and most
modern power plants in America.
Wednesday a trip will be made to
Pullman to inspect the car works of
the Pullman Company. Armour's several packing plants will be visited,
and the largest division street works
of the Peoples Gas, Light and Coke
Company will take up a large part of
the afternoon.
Thursday will be spent visiting one
of the plants of Sears, Roebuck &
of
Company, large manufacturers
valves; and the McCormick works of
the International
Harvester Company.
Friday will be "Telephone Day."
The plant of the Western Electric
Company near Chicago will be visited
during the morning. This company
manufactures all the cable and telephone equipment used by the Bell
Telephone System of America. In the
afternoon the main office andi exchange of the Automatic Telephone
Company will be visited.
Saturday the Interlocking System
of the Northwestern Railroad will be
inspected. Visits will also bo made to
the Board of Trade, the Art Institute,
and tho power plant of the Blackstone
Hotel.
In tho evening of Saturday the Chicago Alumni Association of tho University of Kentucky will entertain tho
class and other members of tho party'
at tho annual dinner given on this occasion,
Tho party will leave Chicago Sunday, April 2nd, arriving in Lexington
that evening.

stopped over in Lexington about a
week ago to visit tho University. Ho
says that as an examplo of tho tremendous Industrial activity
in tho
United States at this time, tho contracts of tho steol companies for the
ensuing year call for 2,000,000 tons
moro steel than it is possible for tho
United States to produce working at
tho utmost capacity.
W. B. Croan, class of 1915, visited
tho University tho first of last week
on his way home for a week's vacation, before accepting a position with
the American Blower Company at Detroit. Croan has been in the student
course of tho Ford Motor Car Company since graduation and has secured
valuable experience in tho Ford efficiency methods. Ho says that
men are now employed in the
Ford works at Detroit, running three
eight-hou- r
shifts a day, and it Is
rumored that tho capacity of the plant
is to be increased so as to employ
100,000 men.

now taking.
