· The court of quarter sessions was established by the Virginia House E

_ the ancient English court. (1) When Kentucky became a state in 1792, its 1

session of the court was held on March 25, l799, in the home of Fisher ‘
I Rice, Present were Joseph Crockett, William Shrieves, and Richard Young, 1
who had been appointed and commissioned by Governor James Garrard as the
hOW_ justices composing the court; after qualifying for office, these justices
&lph_ appointed Samuel H, Woodson as clerk of the court, Hr. Woodson gave bond I
hs. of $1,000, with Joseph Crockett as his security, and entered upon the duties I
