Samuel M. Wilson served the Lexington Public Library at various times as trustee, as secretary, and as treasurer.
This is a collection of papers relating to the Lexington, Ky. Public Library, which were gathered by Samuel M. Wilson. It includes copies of documents related to the beginning and early development of the library in the late eighteenth century to its formal establishment with an Andrew Carnegie grant at the turn of this century. Some of these documents concern the acquisition of the Gratz Park site where the main library is presently located and the eventual construction of the building. The remainder of the collection consists of Wilson's correspondence, reports, catalogs, minutes of meetings of the Board of Trustees, and historical sketches.
