Born in Fairfax County, Virginia, John Halley settled in Boonesborough, Ky. There he supposedly opened one of the first stores, planted one of the first orchards, and shipped tobacco to New Orleans. Samuel H. Halley, perhaps a nephew of John, lived in Madison County, Kentucky and moved to Scott County in the 1850's. His son, Henry Simpson Halley, settled in Scott County, Ky., after serving in the Confederate Army.
This microfilm copy of the Halley family papers consists of family letters, land grants and photographs. The most interesting letters describe medical treatment and life during the Civil War. The family members who were correspondents include: Henry S., Samuel, and John Halley.
