BOTANY
The elementary courses of the Department of Botany are designed to give will
the general student a knowledge of the basic principles of plant life, to show Cheri
him the relation of plants to man, and to give him a better understanding of his  
environment. These courses are fundamental to students of agriculture, forestry, Phys
and pharmacy and will satisfy part of the premedical requirements of most H“m
medical schools. The advanced courses lead to an undergraduate major in
botany with emphasis upon morphology, classification, physiology, and cyto-
genetics and should be of interest to students of applied botanical sciences.

The Department of Chemistry offers training leading to the Bachelor of  
Science degree with a major in chemistry and the Bachelor of Arts degree gfm
with a major in chemistry. It otlers also a prescribed curriculum which leads ec
to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Chemistry.
Commercial subjects combined with training in this department constitutes
preparation for technical salesmen, technical service men, liaison agents be-
tween laboratory and plant, or secretaries in scientific or industrial laboratories. F
Persons majoring in chemistry may choose library techniques as electives with Che
the expectation of becoming technical librarians. Chg
By including certain courses in Education in the requirements for the Che
A.B. degree, the student may become well prepared for teaching science and Ch(
mathematics in the high school. ri

THE DEGREE OF B.S. IN INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY  
The degree of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Chemistry is awarded G°'
upon completion of a prescribed curriculum. The curriculum is designed to
prepare the student to continue the study of chemistry in a graduate school, or ,I._
to engage in technical work with a substantial background of training. Al-
though it is constructed on the basis of four academic years, students are ad- _
vised to plan to spend an additional semester or two summer terms, so that A
the load may be lighter during the regular years. f°’
German 21b must be completed and one year’s work in French is recom- mi;
mended, so that a fair reading knowledge of both languages may be acquired. AU
Students planning to take this curriculum are advised to include one year of the
physics and one-half year of solid geometry in their high school studies. De-
ficiencies in these subjects may require enrollment in preliminary courses at
the University. Solid geometry is a prerequisite for Mathematics 20a.
Registration in chemistry courses of juniors or seniors majoring in industrial
chemistry is restricted to students having a grade-point average of 2.0 or higher m
in all chemistry courses. ih
