- Schmidt (House 1964, 1968-1982, 69th district; Senate 1984-1992, 11th district; Republican) discusses his roots in a German family living in Northern Kentucky, his Catholic education, early education and employment, military service, and entrance into politics through Young Republicans. He proceeds to recall impressions of several governors and legislators, key legislation during his tenure, and the inner workings of the legislative process. Highlights include Schmidt's opinion of the atomic bombing of Japan, civil rights legislation, corruption and reform of Northern Kentucky politics, and the formation of Northern Kentucky University.
