Facing his former school for the first time, Derek Anderson scored 22 points and had five steals while both Ron Mercer and Nazr Mohammed registered double-doubles as the third-ranked Wildcats battled to their 10th straight win, 81-65, over Ohio State.
Anderson, a Buckeye transfer, scored 14 points in the first half as the Cats opened a 36-28 lead at the break. UK held the Buckeyes to only one field goal in the first seven minutes, but was unable to put the underdogs away thanks to 17 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
In the opening minute of the second half, OSU sliced the margin to four, but UK answered with a 14-3 spurt, including six points from Mohammed, that extended the Wildcats' lead to 50-35 with 14 minutes remaining. The Buckeyes made one final run, closing within five at 56-51 with 7:53 left, but the Wildcats answered with a 7-2 run.
Mohammed scored 12 of his 14 points and grabbed eight of his 12 rebounds in the second half. Mercer was solid with 22 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

Louisville native Derek Anderson led five UK players in double figures as the Cats defeated intrastate rival Louisville, 74-54, at Freedom Hall. It was UK's sixth win against the Cards in the last seven meetings, its 11th consecutive win overall and its 14th straight on the road.
Anderson scored the Wildcats' first seven points on three spectacular dunks and a free throw. In a switch, Nazr Mohammed and Scott Padgett started the game in place of Jamaal Magloire and Jared Prickett. Mohammed had eight points and four boards in the first half, but No. 3-ranked Kentucky, which shot just 40.7 percent from the floor, trailed UofL, 28-27, at the break.
Ron Mercer, who was held to three shots in the first half, scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half as the Cats rallied from a three-point deficit to close out the final 10 minutes with a 35-12 run. Anderson led all scorers with 19 points and six rebounds and UK forced U of L into 25 turnovers for the game and 29.4 percent shooting in the second half. Mohammed finished with 10 points and Padgett, a Louisville native, added a career-high 15 points.
U of L star Dejuan Wheat was held to eight shots and eight points.

Jamaal Magloire and Nazr Mohammed combined for 25 points and 13 rebounds as No. 3 Kentucky opened SEC play with a 74-40 victory over Tennessee. The win was the Wildcats' 12th straight and their eighth in a row over the Volunteers.
UK scored the game's first eight points and held UT scoreless for the opening 5:31. Mohammed scored seven of his 12 points in the defense-dominated first half as the Wildcats took a 28-12 lead into the lockerroom. Three-pointers by Ron Mercer and Allen Edwards helped the Wildcats burst out to a 14-2 run to open the second half, pushing the lead to 42-14 with 14:34 remaining.
Senior Jared Prickett scored all 11 of his points in the second half and pulled down seven boards. Magloire, who hit on 6-7 shots from the field to finish with a team-high 13 points, pulled down six rebounds and swatted three shots. The UT defense held UK's top guns, Derek Anderson and Ron Mercer, to eight points apiece.
