FACTS ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY General Information LOCATION — LEXINGTON, a community of about 100,000 located in the heart of Kentucky's famed Bluegrass region. Renowned as the thoroughbred horse breeding center of the world, Lexington's surrounding countryside is dotted with famous horse farms. The city also is known as the world's largest loose-leaf tobacco market. It is located about 80 miles east of Louisville and 85 miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio.
