as well as to provide opportunities for cultural experiences in
music for the university student. Various music courses may be
, taken:
A (1) As work to apply on the degreeof Bachelor of Arts in
" Music (see p. 8l)
(2) As work to apply on the degree of Bachelor of Arts with
~ a major in music.
(3) As elective for those majoring in other departments of the
university.
University Bands
» The University bands furnish an opportunity for participation
  for students who have previous performing experience on band
instruments. The marching band performs for the football and
basketball games and furnishes music for the ROTC spring parades.
The concert band presents concerts on the campus, in the com-
munity and for radio programs. A course in band directing is
available to students who possess the prerequisite training and
talent.

University Vocal Ensembles
Glee Clubs. The University Women’s and Men’s Glee Clubs
are open to all students interested in choral activity, with the
permission of the respective directors. These organizations appear
at many university and community functions during the year
including Sunday Afternoon Musicales, out-of-town appearances,
and radio programs.
Choristers. This organization is composed of a selected group
of students and performs both sacred and secular music. It partici-
pates in an annual Christmas program on the campus.
Mixed Chorus. This organization is composed of the combined
Men’s and Women’s Glee Clubs organized during the second se-
mester of each year and provides University students an oppor-
_ tunity to study and perform major cantatas and oratorios. This
" group and the University Symphony Orchestra appear for a spring
/   concert on the campus.

/ i University Orchestras
The University Symphony Orchestra is a student, faculty, and
civic musical organization. The orchestra appears regularly in
concerts. It also combines with the Mixed Chorus in the spring
performance of a cantata or oratorio. A course in orchestral
· directing is available to students who possess the prerequisite
training and talent. Admission to the orchestra is arranged by con-
\ sultation with the director. . ..
