results showing the influence of light and warmth on the
germination of samples. ·
Experiments in the Insectary have also been made to
determine the doses of hydrocyanic acid gas necessary to
destroy hothouse pests and yet not injure plants. Other
experiments have been made with tobacco fumes and cx-
tracts for the same purpose.
This spring, some experiments were started to show
what can be done with iron sulphate solutions in destroy-
ing weeds, using a compressed-air Held sprayer made by the
American Sprayer Company of Minneapolis. T_hus far we .
obtain best results using a twenty per cent. solution, on
white top and a few other broad-leaved annual weeds.

fessor Carman to represent the Station at the meeting of
the Association of American Agricultural Colleges and Ex-
periment Stations held at Portland, Oregon, in August, and
in December, as a member of the Committee on Methods, ”*
he attended the meeting of the Association of Official Seed
Analysts at Boston.

year there were 516 brands of fertilizers registered by
forty-four different firms. Samples of all these different
brands have been analyzed, also 359 samples collected by
inspectors and sent in by farmers. There were issued
during the year 1,989,540 tags and 800,763 stamps, repre-
senting a value of $22,223.75.
Division of Food Control Worlc.——The work during the
past year has shown more substantial results than ever
before, Some of the details are as follows:
a. Inspections throughout food factories, wholesale and
retail grocery stores. wholesale and retail drug stores,
bakeries, dairies, slaughtering houses and mills in all parts
of the State, and the analysis of 1,500 samples of foods and
beverages and 1,106 samples of drugs in connection with _,
these inspections and in connection with samples sent in °
