Who's Sorry Now?
Dear Sir:
Enclosed is my subscription renewal and ,i L'it'i subscription for a friend of mine who is a fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Right after Eddie Sutton was hired at Kentucky's coach, he said some people in Arkansas were glad he left.
Me, I'm and Eddie Sutton man. And I want my friend and all his buddies in Arkansas to find out every week just what kind of a job Eddie is doing and how much we Kentucky fans appreciate him.
Arkansas' loss is certainly Kentucky's gain.
Thanks for a great paper,
Richard Congleton Houston, Texas
Boo To Students
Dear Sir:
I'd like to address this to the UK student
section:
You obviously do not realize how lucky you are to have the chance to watch Kentucky. I cannot believe you would boo a player, regardless of their performance.
For a fan in Tennessee who strains to hear the broadcast of each game over the radio, this had to be my biggest disappointment in UK basketball ever. What about pride and tradition?
Are you not supposed to be the sixth man? I would rather the student section be empty than to have one of its own players booed.
Next time, if you are going to boo. just stay home and study. Better yet, find another university. I don't want you at UK.
True Blue Always,
Mike Murphy
Oak Ridge. Tennessee
P.S. If you disagree with me, please let me know!
Editor's note: Reader Murphy is referring to the student section booing center Rob Lock twice during a recent home game. Reader Murphy will also read Coach Sutton's comments elsewhere in this edition on the students' action.)
Ford Has Better Idea
Dear Sir:
Being a resident of Louisville, being a fan of the University of Kentucky and being a reader of Tlie Courier-Journal, I believe you can understand how many Big Blue followers feel about certain things in Louisville.
You might say I feel pretty good for a change. Kentucky is off to a pretty good start, Louisville lost its first three games and now the greatest news of all, Billy Reed appears to be on his way out.
Many of my friends have worked for years at Ford Motor Company here in Louisville
and they always insisted their trucks are better than anyone's.
I don't know about trucks because I've never driven one, let alone own one.
But I've got to agree that' 'Ford has a better idea."- pun intended.
Sincerely yours,
Shelby Owens Louisville, Kentucky
(Editor's note: Reader Owens apparently is referring to the newspaper situation where there has been a difference of opinion betweer sports editor Reed and the new executive sports editor Steve Ford over Reed's role as a columnist at the newspaper.)
The Mystery Kid
Dear Sir:
Who's the mystery kid?
He was in Rupp Arena on Senior Day last March. When the NBC camera picked him out of the crowd, Dick Enberg-in one of his less brilliant moments as a sportscaster called him Sean Sutton. No way! He wasn't even wearing a diamond-patterned sweater.
Now I open my November 29 issue of The Cats' Pause and find the same kid on page 17. sitting next to Sean Sutton. Who is he?
Next question: What's Rex Chapman's real birthday? The TCP yearbook says October 5, 1964, which would make him about seven weeks younger than Kenny Walker. If Rex is 22, he's going to end up succeeding Dick Clark as the World's Oldest Living Teen-Ager.
Sincerely,
Angela Stockton Gulfport, Mississippi
(Editor's note: Reader Stockton is a very avid follower to say the least. To answer question number one. Enberg was half right. The kid's name is Sutton, but not Sean. He's Sean's kid brother, Scott, who is very big for his age and could develop into quite a basketball player. As for Chapman's age, you're quite correct in challenging this piece of information. Rex is actually 19. He was born in 1967.)
Thinks Of Joe B.
Dear Sir:
My check is enclosed for subscription plus a few thoughts from yours truly Kentucky Lake slab fisherman.
Our Brooks Wildcat special west of Kentucky Lake will make trips to UKIT, Georgia at Freedom Hall, Alabama and Ole Miss as always.
I enjoyed your comments on my friend Steve Rardin, especially his comments on his tour of duty in World War II. I was there and I took a 39-day cruise from E.T.O. to Manila. Maybe we can have a chat about that. I have a sourvenir for him.
On October 14, I took in Cats' Nite Out. It was a five-hour drive and it was worth it.
I got news for Mr. (Denny) Crum. All that hoopla was fine with me. Eddie Sutton made my day for lots of reasons, mainly by shaking my hand and chit-chatting.
I look forward to watching and listening to our team. I worked in Illinois for Allied Chemical last season and took a lot of lip about Louisville winning NCAA. My standard answer has always been that I don't care if one of the"B"teams in Kentucky wins if Kentucky doesn't because UK will still be the "A" team.
One thought about the 3-point field goal. It's fun to watch unless we lose the game. It appears to me that if a player is fouled and misses the three-point shot, he should be given three free throws. What's the difference?
What if shoot's front foot is one-quarter inch back of line and the zebra's not in position to see it. And so it goes.
The sun is shining and I gotta get to the lake. I think of Joe B. each time I catch a slab of croppie.
Sincerely yours.

Astonished At Fans
Dear Sir:
I was astonished at the UK so-called fans' actions during the Kentucky-Texas Tech game when they booed Robert Lock entering the game but then cheered for him when he made a rebound basket and pulled down a rebound.
He did foul out but he got out there and worked hard trying to make something happen.
Those people didn't have much UK spirit to boo a player trying his best for them and the Wildcats.
I would like to thank Robert Lock for getting out there on the court and representing UK. You've made a lot of progress, Robert. There are a lot of television viewers who have faith in you and your ability. These fans cheer for you even if they can't be in the stands to do it. So keep up the work and you'll get there.
I admire the way Eddie Sutton sticks up for his players with the refs. Keep it up, Eddie.
A devoted UK fan, Lori Dunn

It's WLW-700 In North
Dear Sir:
I would like to know where I can tune in the UK basketball games. As you can see, 1 live in Michigan. This is the first year I have been unable to listen to games on radio.
The only way I have to follow the Big Blue is through your Cats' Pause, and in past through the eyes of Cawood and Ralph. I think they are the best two people in radio.
This is Big Ten Country. Most of the time, the Big Blue are on national television, the local stations will not carry the games. I use
to be able to get some games on ESPN, but I also see that they are not carrying any SEC games this year.
I guess by the season end I will have enough of Big Ten and Big East basketball. But one good thing, I will be able to get to Lexington to see a couple of games this year.
I for one think UK made a wise choice in Mr. Sutton for basketball coach. I also know the Big Blue will again be at the top when the season's over. We still have quality players at the University of Kentucky.
As the season's end, the Big Blue will prevail. Go Big Blue!
Yours truly,
Robert Falls
Grand Blane, Michigan
(Editor's note: You should be ability to pick up the 50,000-watt, clear-channel WLW Radio in Cincinnati at 700 on your radio dial without any trouble at all. Although ESPN won't be carrying any games this season, you will be able to pick up several games on the USA Cable Network.)
Bobby Jealous Of UK?
Dear Sir;
I just got through reading Sports Illustrated's article about Bobby Knight and the new book out about him.
Seems like Bobby is a bit jealous of the Kentucky program for some reason.
For the life of me, I can't understand why people think Knight is so great. Is it because he uses all that filthy language and people are scared of him?
From what I hear, he has problem handling his own family, let alone trying to tell everyone else how to run their lives.
Bobby deserves the people he associates with and if my son is ever good enough to play college basketball, you can rest assured Mr. Knight will never have the opportunity to even enter my home, let alone sign him.
Knight is a disgrace to college basketball and everything it stands for.
Knight only likes programs and coaches that he can beat every year. When Michigan and Illinois starting beating him, he starts disliking them.
His ego is so big that he thinks no one can beat the all mighty unless they cheat.
Bobby may have some grey hair, but he still hasn't matured very much.
Sincerely yours,
Ted Sumner Chicago, Illinois
The Crap Of '75
Dear Sir:
I read where Bobby Knight talks abi at all the crap that has gone on at Kentucky under Joe B. Hall.
It's amazing how Joe B. was his best friend when he was winning those close games in the early 1970s and then how bad Joe B.
