William Henry Townsend was born May 31, 1890 in Glensboro, Kentucky. He lived his whole life in Lexington, Kentucky. He was a historian and author. He graduated from the University of Kentucky Law School in 1912. He was a Lincoln collector, scholar, and author. His best known books are Lincoln and His Wife's Home Town, Lincoln and the Bluegrass, and Hundred Proof. He died July 25, 1964 in Lexington, Kentucky.
