MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES,May 31, 1898 - page 173-174



      The Board of Trustees met in regular session in the
President s room in the College building, at 1 P. lo. on
Tuesday May 31, 1898.


      Present:          Messrs.    Boswell,
                                   Flournoy,
                                   Frazee,
                                   Gooding,
                                   bolt,
                                   Kennedy,
                                   Marcui,
                                   Matthews,
                                   Patterson,
                                   Peak,
                                   Stoll,
                                   Todd,


      Judge Landes submitted a copy of the oath of office.

      Judge Bolt, Messrs. Frazee, Stoll and MIarcum were qualified
by taking the oath of office. Gentl. Buell sent notice that
he could not be present.


      In the absence of the governor of the Commonwealth,
Captain Thomas Todd was elected temporary Chairman.

      Judge Holt was then elected permanent chairman.

      The Chairman then appointed the following committees.


      The minutes of the previous meetIng were then read and
approved.

      The minutes of the Executive Committee were read and re-
ferred to the Committee on the Minutes of the Executive
Committee.

      The minutes of the Faculty were read referred to the
Committee on the Minutes of Faculty.

      Messrs. F. C. Elkin, and B. P. Southgate came before
the board to request an appropriation for the use of the
Association of Alumni.


      Mr. Gooding offered the following as a resolution which
was seconded by Mr. Boswell.

      It appearing to the satisfaction of the members of
the Board of Trustees of the Agricultural and Mechanical
College of Kentucky that the Association of Alumni of said
College is in need of financial assistance, and believing
that in rendering to it such assistance the best interest
of this institution are subserved.


      Therefore, be it resolved by the Board of Trustees
of said College, at its semi-annual meeting, held on this
the 31st day of May, 1898., that an annual appropriation
of two hundred dollars ($200.00) be made, and is hereby made,
to be used by said association in the manner deemed most
expedient and wise by the governing authorities
thereof.


      Be it further resolved,  That Said appropriation
be payable, the first on the 1st day of June, 1898; and
thereafter on the 25th day of May of each year.


      Be it further resolved, and it is hereby ordered;
That said appropriation be paid out of the general funds of
this Institution to the Treasurer of said Association by
the Business Agent of the College or its Treasurer.


                 Carried as follows:

      Ayes - Boswell, Frazee, Gooding, -Marcum, Matthews,
Stoll, Todd, - 7.



No - Flournoy, Kennedy, Patterson, Peak, - 4.

     The minutes of the special faculties were next read
and referred to the committee on the minutes of the
faculty.



     The President's report was read and referred to the
Committee on President's report.



  T Tthe reports of the Business Agent and the Treasurer
were referred, (without reading) to the committee on
Finance.



      The minutes of the Board of Control were read and
referred to the Committee on the Experiment Station.



      On motion Messrs.  Gooding, Todd, and Flournoy, were
appointed a committee to prepare a statement of the Board's
estimate of the high character and services of Hon. R. A.
Spurr and Judge Thomas H. Hines, deceased.
