He was noted for leading the faction within the party which opposed William Goebel in the 1890's. In 1875, Hallam married Bettie Stevenson, of Covington, Ky. They had one daughter, Alice Stevenson Hallam.This is a heterogenous collection of the personal and business papers of the Hallam family, of Covington, Kentucky. It includes Hallam's legal correspondence for the years 1873 to 1905, legal briefs, family letters and financial papers. It does not include many of his political papers. Mrs. Hallam's correspondence with her family, dating from 1858 to 1904, a scrapbook, clippings, and photographs of the Stevenson family are included. Alice Hallam's social and family correspondence from 1891 to 1951, which contains several letters from Irvin S.
