5. The student teacher shall not be permitted to take more than fifteen or
sixteen semester hours of work the semester student teaching is done. If, in
case of real need, it seems that a student should take a greater load, a
faculty committee from the College of Education shall consider the request.
_ 6. The work in the major subject must be chosen from the suggested courses
on pages 15 through 25 of this bulletin.
Application for student teaching should be made at least a semester prior
to enrolling in the course and the student must present evidence of having had
a thorough physical examination by University physicians before he may enroll
for student teaching.
lr Student teaching during the summer session is open only to students who
[_ have had previous teaching experience in the public schools.
L6 Transient students and graduate students in agricultural education may
take student teaching without having done a semester in residence on the
campus. These students must have an over-all standing of 2.5 for the entire
g college period, but may not have had other courses in education. They take

to CERTIFICATION
m The University of Kentucky offers curricula for all certificates issued by
fS the State Department of Education on the basis of four years of college educa-
IH tion. Upon graduation from the College of Education the student is eligible
for either the Provisional High School Certificate or the four-year Provisional
js Elementary Certificate. In order to obtain the certificate desired, the student
{0 must make application to the State Department of Education. Application
C- blanks may be obtained from the Dean’s Oflice. Students desiring to teach
agriculture or home economics should enroll in the College of Agriculture and
Home Economics and pursue curricula leading to these certificates.
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
n’ Agriculture. The Federal Vocational Education Act, known as the Smith-
lt` Hughes Act, passed by Congress in 1917, makes provision for the education of
teachers of vocational agriculture in schools below college level. The University
of Kentucky has been designated as the state institution to educate white
‘ teachers for this work.
