courses. The maximum credit acceptable from University Centers toward an
undergraduate degree shall be 67 credit hours. This maximum is to be reduced
by any credit hours earned while registered as a freshman or sophomore on
the Lexington campus or elsewhere.
Entrance Examinations. All new students, other than those entering the 0*
Graduate School, are required to take the University classification tests and W
such physical examinations as the University may require. tl
Absences. The instructor should keep a record of absences for each student. b
When in his opinion the number of absences for any student becomes excessive
or appears to be unjustiiied, he shall report such student to the dean of the U
college in which he is registered. If the student is dropped for excessive P
absences, the instructor shall report his grade as W or E. U
Trips for members of organizations (musical, oratorical, dramatic, etc.) 0
and of University classes and the absences resulting from such trips must _
be authorized by the appropriate college dean if the trips result in the absence t_
of students from regularly scheduled classes; the dean must report such t
authorization to the faculty of his college, the Registrar, the Dean of Men, Y
and the Dean of Women; and the Registrar must report the list of such (
authorizations to the University Faculty upon request. C
Trips for participants in intercollegiate athletic events and the absences (
resulting from such trips must be authorized by the Vice President; he must
report such authorization to the Registrar, the Dean of Men, and the Dean i
of Women; and the Registrar must report the list of such authorizations to the l
University faculty upon request. r
All absences due to trips not covered by the preceding regulations must ·
be approved by the dean of the student’s college. 1
In some appropriate manner, the faculty member in charge of an author- ;
ized trip shall notify instructors that the absence is authorized. The student
shall be responsible for the work missed and, in advance of the trip should j
make arrangements to make up the work. The instructor shall, if feasible,
give the student an opportunity to make up the work missed and shall not, in ,
any case, arbitrarily penalize the student for the absence.
Student Discipline and Control
In issuing rules for the regulation of the affairs of the University and the
government of its students, it is not deemed necessary to set out details. The
University expects all students to hold to the strictest standards of honesty and
to conduct themselves in a seemly manner, bearing in mind that their conduct
determines in a large measure their reputation and that of the institution.
The Marking System. Results of work will be recorded in the Registrar’s
OHice as follows:
A—Represents an exceptionally high achievement as a result of aptitude,
' effort and intellectual initiative. It is valued at four grade points for
each credit hour.
B—Represents a high achievement as a result of ability and effort. It is
valued at three grade points for each credit hour.
C—Represents average achievement. It is valued at two grade points for
each credit hour.
D—Represents the minimum passing grade (not to be used for graduate
students). It is valued at one grade point for each credit hour.
E—Represents unsatisfactory performance and indicates failure in the
course. It is valued at zero credit hours and zero grade points.
