*The Kentucky track team placed seventh in the 48th annual SEC track meet held at Auburn. Alabama won the meet. Event winners for Kentucky were Hamil Grimes in the 400-meter run, Mark Nenow in the 5,000-meter run and the 10,000 meter-run and Marvin Mays in the high jump with an SEC record jump of seven feet, three and one-half inches.
*The University of Tennessee has won the Bernie Moore Trophy, symbol of the finest all-sports program in the SEC. Tennessee totaled 56'A points to 54 for second place Auburn. Kentucky placed sixth with 44 points.
The youngest U.S. Olympic men's basketball team in history  featuring three freshmen from the past college season  was
selected last week after four days of trials on the campus of the Universtiy of Kentucky. Included on the 12-man roster is Kentucky's Sam Bowie, who joins freshmen Isiah Thomas of Indiana and Rodney McCray of Louisville on the team. The Olympic team will tour the country playing NBA All-Stars. Kentucky's Dirk Minniefield and Fred Cowan were also impressive during the trials although they did not make the team.
*Four UK football players were drafted in the annual NFL pool. Cornerback Larry Carter was picked in the second round by Denver, Lester Boyd in the sixth round by New Orleans, and Tom Kearns in the seventh round by New England. Former UK running back Rod Stewart, who did not play last year, was picked by Buffalo in the supplemental draft.
?Kentucky Ail-American guard Kyle Macy has signed a professional basketball contract
with the Phoenix Suns of the NBA. The terms on Macy's contract were unknown but Phoenix General Manager Jerry Coiangelo said Macy received a "multiple-year contract for a substantial amount." Macy \io drafted by the Suns last year.
*The UK baseball team finished the season with a 25-21 mark and failed to make the SEC playoffs. Hoping to earn a spot in the playoffs for the second straight year. UK finished 8-10 in SEC play.
*Before 15,000 fans in Commonwealth Stadium, the Blues defeated the Whites 17-0 as UK concluded spring ball. The two fron-trunners for the quarterback job, Terry Henry and Randy Jenkins, both had their bright moments. Henry ran for 100 yards but was only 3 of 12 in the passing department while Jenkins was 10 of 22 passing for 77 yards. Randy Brooks ran for 108 yards while Greg Wimberly caught four passes.
