S. J. Rogers and his family lived in Paris, Kentucky, and farmed corn. One unidentified member of the family served as an Ordinance Officer in the Confederate army during the Civil War.
S. J. Roger's account book consists of a Civil War ordinance officer's book of vouchers, notations concerning corn shucking, and household accounts. One notable entry concerns the employment of a free black woman hired in 1883 to cook, wash, and milk the cows.
