Collection Overview

Biography / History
Campaign officials. In 1920 Mrs. Mary Shelby Wilson chaired the Kentucky Women's Democratic Convention and was president of the National Democratic Victory Club of Lexington. Judge Samuel M. Wilson began his political career supporting William Jennings Bryan and Woodrow Wilson, but he was most active in the elections of 1920 and 1924 as state campaign chairman. Subsequently he was less active in the campaigns of Al Smith and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Scope and Content
The political correspondence of Samuel Mackay Wilson and his wife Mary Shelby Wilson comprise the manuscript portion of this collection. Much of this is concerned with Wilson's role as state Democratic campaign chairman in the presidential election of 1924. Many of the papers of Mrs. Wilson are included, notably those concerned with women's political groups. The collection also includes pamphlets, clippings, reports, circulars, and campaign memorabilia.
