MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES,Dec.12,1906 Page 132(cont'd)

     Ayes - Judge Kinkead.

Noes - Messrs, Hopkins, Mc~hord, Nicholas, Frazee, Lafferty,
Metcalfe, Terrell, Patterson and Oarpenter - 9'7

     The motion was lost.

At this point Mr. Hopkins made an oral report for the
Committee on the President's Report as follows:-

We have not prepared a written report, but desire to make
an oral report, if acceptable to the Board.

The first suggestion the President makes in his Renort is
that the name of the college be changed to University. We are
of opinion that this would require an Act of the Legislature,
and approve the suggestion with that modification.

To this part of the Report endorsing the President's
suggestion as to a change of name, Mr. Metcalfenoted his
dissent.

The second recommendation is in regard to athletic exercises
such as base-ball and foot-ball, and especially in connection
with foreign teams or what is known as prize match games. The
committee is unanimously of the opinion that all such games
should be prohibited and that athletic exercise of this kind
should be limited to games between different teams of the col-
lege with each other; but that no teams should be permitted to
go abroad to play, or to have match teams to come upon the
grounds to play with them.
