Tuning into Kentucky basketball games on radio has been a tradition i following the
Wildcats since the dawn of the Fabulous Five. Whether it was dialing up one of the several competing broadcasts in the 1950s, ot just bending the antenna evet so slightly to hear the 39-yeat "Voice of the Wildcats," Cawood Ledford, fans have religiously tuned into the Big Blue.
Even today, as Kentucky basketball continues to dominate in popularity from the Pikeville to Paducah, fans tune into the action all across the United States. This yeat, more than 90 stations will catry each game live. So whether the Big Blue fans are in Orlando, Fla., or Harlan, Ky., they can tune into the latgest college basketball radio network in the country. The netwotk reaches its outet limits thanks to such stations as clear channel WHAS in Louisville, 840 on the AM dial, or WSAI-AM in Cincinnati, at frequency 1530. The rights to the UK broadcasts are owned by Sports Communications, Inc., a joint venture between Host Communications, WVLK Radio, WKYT-TV and Clear Channel Communications. Ralph Hacker
Ralph Hacket, who statted broadcasting Wildcats basketball games as the color commentatot in 1971, is beginning his 25th season on the UK Radio Network. Hacker took over play-by-play duties in 1992, aftet the retirement of the legendary Cawood Ledford.
Hacker, a Richmond, Ky., native, is also the play-byplay voice of the UK football broadcasts. As general manager of WVLK Radio, the flagship station of UK broadcasts, he handles the Rick Pitino ptegame and postgame shows. Hacket also serves as the host of Big Blue Line, the call-in show fot both UK head coaches.
Hacket began broadcasting sports at age 15, wotking high school games in Madison County. By age 16, he was calling Eastern Kentucky Univetsity football and basketball contests.
In 1995 he renewed his wedding vows with wife Marilyn while on tour with the UK basketball team in Italy. The cetemony took place  with the blessing of daughter Heather, a student at Centre  in St. Peter's Cathedral in Vatican City, the latgest cathedral in the wotld. Serving as witnesses for this special event were Cawood and Frances Ledford and Rick and Joanne Pitino.
The former Wildcat basketball All-Amefican begins his fourth season as colot commentatot on the UK Radio Network. The Peru, Ind., native also handles halftime and postgame duties fot each broadcast.
The fotmer Indiana Mr. Basketball transferal from Purdue to Kentucky in 1976. Aftet sitting out the '77 season as a redshirt, his guard play led the Wildcats to the 1978 National Championship. While lettering three years fot Coach Joe B. Hall, Macy earned All-Ametica honors twice and Academic All-
America recognition as a junior. His play at Kentucky is still temembeted in the tecotd books as he curtently holds school tecotds in cateet free throw percentage (89.0%) and season free throw percentage (91.2%), while holding the No. 4 mark in career assists (470).
After his juniot season, Macy was a first-round draft pick of the Phoenix Suns. Following his seniot yeat, Macy played five years in Phoenix befote completing his NBA cateer over the next two seasons with the Chicago Bulls and the Indiana Pacers. He played thtee mote years of pro basketball in Italy before returning to Lexington with his wife Tina. They have two daughters, Mallory and Meredith.
Macy curtently wotks with Coach Hall in the banking business. He also runs a successful summer basketball camp in Centtal Kentucky and is the sales teptesentative in the Bluegrass for a sport flooting company. In August, 1996, he was inducted into the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame.
Rob
Bromley
Rob Bromley begins his 17th year on the UK Television Netwotk, handling play-by-play duties for live and delayed broadcasts. Bromley called the television play-by-play of Wildcat football and basketball from 1980-86, and since that time, he has served as color commentator and sideline reporter for both netwotks. Once again this season, Bromley will serve as producer and host of the weekly Rick Pitino television show.
A graduate of Butler University in Indianapolis, Bromley has wotked on the sports staff at WKYT-TV for 19 years, the past 16 as nightly sports anchor. Prior to joining the station, he worked as a sports anchot in Lima, Ohio. He began his sportscasting cateer on radio in Lima, calling the play-by-play for Bowling Green University and Bluffton College as well as local high school games.
