Author, Linguist, Traveler. Borrow possessed a gift for languages plus an interest in the vagabond life in general, and gypsy language and culture in particular. His best known work, THE BIBLE IN SPAIN, appeared in 1843.
The papers consist of sixteen poems in foreign languages, sixteen more in English translations, and three letters, all in the hand of Borrow. The three letters include one to J. F. Dalton, in which Borrow indicates his inability to assist Dalton in finding tunes for the hymns of the Spanish Protestants, one to Mrs. Smith concerning publication of Borrow's works, and one dealing with the financial problems of his brother, T. J. Borrow.
