TRANsI,oCATIoN or BIINERAL MATTER IN THE JACK BEAN,
AND THE GRO`\\'TH OF IsoLATED PLANT EMBRYOS. These investi- ·
gations have been prosecuted as cireumst—ances permitted and
promise to give important results.
THE INFLUENCE OF CERTAIN BTINERALS ON THE CHEMICAL
CONSTITUTION or THE CHICKEN has been studied in a prelimi-
nary way. The investigation is to be continued.
THE OCCURRENCE OF SULFUR IN PLANTs AND SOILS is still x
under investigation aIId a paper has been published in the Jour-
L nal of Agricultural Research. _
OXIDATION OF SIYLFUR WHEN ConI>osTED \\'ITII SOIL, ROCK I
M PHOSPIIATE AND I\I.\NURE has been studied, in eo-operation with
C; » other Experiment Stations, in testing a new ]llClll()(l for render-
id ing phosphate rock soluble, under the direction of Dr. J.- G. ‘
tt Lipman, of New Jersey. III this connection some 762· quantita-
p tive determinations have been made. In these experiments we
im are studying the bacteriology of the process as well as the forma-
_ tion of acid phosphate.
IL THE IXETERMINATION OF TOTAL CALCIUM IN SOILS has been
ul studied for the purpose of developing a Inore accurate method
3S’ than that now in use and we think we have succeeded in im-
`X` proving the method. This work was preliminary to the next
BS mentioned investigation. `
TOTAL CALCIUAI IN ITENTITCKY Sous. A study of the amount .
ef of calcium iII the soils of our principal types has been begun.
he Under this and the next preceding projects soInc 478 quantita-
m· tive determinations of calcium have been made, and it appears
im` that the percentage of total calcium in our soils is lower than
of has been (?()1H1]10lll}’ supposed.

of been carried out llllll analyses made of the plants thus grown.
