V I ‘ ww ‘ Financial Statement of the State Entomoiogist
l vp The appropriation made by the State for the inspection of
  g ‘ A 1 nursery stock is only $500 per year. The Experiment Station,
g · l, _ with the sanction of the Board of Trustees, provides for the
i . - _ salaries of those doing the work; otherwise it would be imprac-
    a ticable to do it with the small amount appropriated. Other
    · states have made available for such inspections from $1,500 to
    . $50,000 annually, the amounts ranging, of course, with the im-
l , . portancc of nursery and orchard interests in the different states. ’
[  'L . Thus, Connecticut appropriates $6,000; Florida, $35,000; Geor-
i   i gia, $50,000; Illinois, $8,740; Iowa, $5,500; Indiana, $15,000;
§_ j_   I Massachusetts, $14,000; Michigan, $7,000; Minnesota, $4,000; °
E —‘ _ '_ New York, $50,000; Ohio, $8,500; and so on, ours being one
  .`.. _ of the smallest amounts provided. As required by the law, the ~

  gf been reported to the Treasurer, but may be given here as show-
  ing the amount available for the work, under the law now in
