  __   ~ The Hessian fly of wheat and barley has been given some
  i · `V attention each spring and fall, with the object of determining
E = _ A ` - A more exactly its brood limits in Wester·n Kentucky, where the
g—   life-history is evidently somewhat different from what it is in
  _, j ij  the elevated part of the State near the mountains of Eastern
  - l { A Kentucky. I have already published several articles on this
  Y_ I I matter, and may have a Hnal statement to make giving the re- i
¥   _ suits of our recent observations. This work is Hatch act in-
i I K   .i vestigation and has seemed of special importance, in view of
{ ·     , the present tendency to bring to the front those projects of
{_ A   ’ . dennite and immediate importance to food and feed produc-
    it   M ‘ tion.
i ._.’   . "   For at good many years I have given attention to the life-
. '``·ie ·   history and injuries of the tobacco worm, and had the insect
i` gt I under observation in the Insectary and in the field last season.
jg    It has recently been made an Adams law project, which will
      ` enable us to concentrate attention on it and complete our stud-

ih .`o`   The teaching of entomology and zoology is not strictly a
  A Station matter, but as it affects our Station work indirectly,
    may be mentioned briefly in this relation. It is done in the
  Natural Science Building, and is restricted to entomology and “
 if `i`_».     zoology, all teaching in botany being taken care of by the De-
  i partment of Botany of the University. One of our instructors
  -_ was taken into the Federal service at the beginning of the

  more attention to teaching than is ordinarily desirable, since
