Part of The Cats' Pause

March/pc?c? Back Thru The Five Years Ago *The Kentucky Wildcats captured a first round NCAA game 57-40 against Ohio University in the Sun Dome in Tampa, Fla. Kentucky entered the game with a two-year drought without a NCAA victory, with its last defeat coming at the hands of Middle Tennessee in Nashville. The 'Cats tested their fans in the first half" as they struggled with Ohio's slow-down offense, leading by only four at the half 21-17. Kentucky pressured Ohio in the second half, using traps to create confusion and turnovers to help increase the lead to 10 with under eight minutes to go. Wildcat fans were then able to relax as the Big Blue reeled off the final eight points of the game to clinch the victory. Guard Dirk Minnicfield led the Wildcats with 16 points and five assists. Melvin Turpin scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Kentucky now moves to Knoxville, Tenn., to play the winner of the Oklahoma-Indiana game, which will be played tomorrow at Roberts Stadium in Evansville, Ind. *The Kentucky baseball team swept through the first Kentucky Classic with a perfect 6-0 record to win the championship.
