Johnson served as a lieutenant colonel in the Confederate Army's Second Kentucky Battalion.
This is a collection on microfilm of the letters of Thomas Johnson and others, written mainly during the Civil War. Among those of Johnson is a report he wrote of an engagement his unit fought in 1864. There are also some letters written by Roger W. Hanson, a Confederate Army colonel, to his wife, other letters she received, including one from General Simon Bolivar Buckner, and some of the letters she wrote to her husband.
