Miss Dorothy Threlkeld, Extension Specialist in clothing at the
University, has explained why fabrics labeled. "Sanforized," sometimes shrink more than the 1 percent allowable under that process.
"Over-dryin- g
in tumbler dryers,
and not the temperature of the
water, is the cause." she said.
Her advice to the housewife is
to separate the thinner pieces
Irom the thicker or heavier ones,
as they do not require the same
length of time in drying. When

the thicker fabrics are over-drieor dried at too high a temperature,
there is a "caking" on the outside
before the inside is dried, resulting
in shrinkage.
Miss Threlkeld recommends taking the garments from the dryer
when they are slightly damp, or
reaampening the garments if nec
essary before ironing.
d,

Freshman and transfer women students attended this ranhrllenic
Council meeting during Welcome Week before signing up for the fall
rush program. After the meeting, all rushees had an opportunity to
meet with officers of national sororities on campus.
