from his loins.  His greatest triumph is Dan
Patch, a brown horse foaled in i896; bred by
D. A. Messner of Oxford, Indiana; dam Zelica,
a mare of great quality, by Wilkesberry; second
dam Abdallah Belle by Pacing Abdallah. Dan
Patch has the pacing lines with some pacing
blood, and at Providence, Rhode Island, August
29, I902, he paced to a record of I.59-. During
the season of I903, Dan Patch, driven by the
master reinsman, M. H. McHenry, paced I3 ex-
hibition miles in 2.04 or better, and dropped below
two minutes -at Brighton Beach, I.59; Colum-
bus, I.591; Lexington, i.591; Memphis, I.561;
and Memphis, I.571. The I.561 is the best har-
ness record with shield, and the I.571 is the best
wagon record with shield.
  Prince Alert, bay gelding, foaled in i892, by
Crown Prince (son of Artemas); dam Till, a bay
trotting mare of 15 hands, of untraced blood,
was bred by G. W. Fort of Knightstown, Indi-
ana, and October 31, I902, he paced to a record
of two minutes at Memphis. lHe wears hopples,
