Members, Board of Trustees:


                      JAMES C. ALBISETTI GIFT AND PLEDGE

Recommendation: that the Board of Trustees accept a gift of $12,500 and a pledge of $37,500
from James C. Albisetti of Lexington, Kentucky, to create and endow the Albisetti Dissertation
Research Fellowship in the Department of History in the College of Arts and Sciences.

In accordance with the Council on Postsecondary Education guidelines, the Board of Trustees
acknowledges that it has primary responsibility for the implementation of the Endowment Match
Program and is responsible for providing oversight of all endowment funds.

Background: Dr. Albisetti is a history professor at the University and has been a generous
supporter of UK. The Albisetti Dissertation Research Fellowship will be awarded to a graduate
student who has passed the necessary qualifying examination to be considered a doctoral
candidate. The $50,000 commitment is eligible for matching funds from the state's Research
Challenge Trust Fund. The pledge will be paid in five equal payments of $7,500 by June 12 in
each of the years 2004 through 2008.
