The following are Coach Joe B. Hall's postgame comments after Kentucky's 63-54 victory over Toledo.
Coach Hall: It was an excellent win. I thought our defense improved in the second half. I thought the main difference was our defense. We did a better job changing our defenses and making things happen. (James) Blackmon, the later part of the game, broke it open with some good play on his part. Basically our freshmen had freshman jitters. I think they're capable of playing better than they did tonight. We're certainly going to need them, because we're not going to be able to keep the veterans in the lineup all the time. We're going to have to call on somebody to give us some help off the bench. I was disappointed with our rebounding especially in the first half. We didn't block off the boards well. In many of those cases it was freshmen mistakes.
(About the play of Blackmon) Coach Hall: We were just looking for anyone to execute. When we went to the 1-4 it was to isolate Blackmon. I think he had three baskets during that stretch.
Were you getting the shots you wanted?
Coach Hall: Yes, pretty much so. We did not execute our offense well. It was only the second half that we started to
"An Excellent Win "
get any rotation at all. The first half we just broke down. Every play it was somebody that didn't execute.
Did you tell your players anything different at halftime?
Coach Hall: No, we just needed to execute better and do a better job on the boards. There wasn't anything to solve at halftime. It's going to take half a season to solve most of it.
Coach, you must feel pretty good about the comeback?
Coach Hall: I do. It was just a matter of settling down a little bit in the second half. They (Toledo) are a very good ballclub. It was a tough opener.

Postgame Comments
The following are Coach Bob Nichols' postgame comments following the University of Kentucky's 63-54 win over Toledo.
Coach Nichols: We're disappointed that we lost the game, we expected to win. I was proud of the way the University of Toledo played. We gave it a good shot. Kentucky deserves some credit by sticking in there and taking advantage of the bad spell we had. I thought both teams played hard. I would have liked to see what would've happened if we wouldn't have had that bad spell. I am proud of the way the team played. What caused the bad spell?
Coach Nichols: The fact that they got some second and third shots on us -- that hurt. It's a little tough to analysis, but possibly it was because we weren't moving and coming to meet our passes. A lot of it was their
(UK) second and third shots. What were you pleased with tonight?
Coach Nichols: I thought we did a nice job on the offensive boards. I thought we played hard and played a good game.
(About the play of Louisville native Ken Epperson)
Coach Nichols: Kenny played as well as I expected him to play. It's very obvious that he is not up to par. He's a big-time basketball player, but wasn't 100 percent. There was no way we could keep him out of the game.
What about Kentucky?
Coach Nichols: I think they have strong possibilities. For an experienced team, we were ahead, and they did a nice job coming back. I think they've got possibilities. There was a lot of things they did in the game and did them well.
