LSU Dominates All -Conference
Team In '84
Southeastern Conference Sugar Bowl representative LSU, with five selections, headlines the first ever Coaches All-SEC team, a 26-member squad selected by the ten head coaches.
Split end Eric Martin, offensive tackle Lance Smith and running back Dalton Hilliard were named to the offensive squad, while defensive members include backfield performers Liffort Hobley and Jeffery Dale. All five Tigers are senior competitors.
Vanderbilt, with four members, including Ail-American punter Ricky Anderson followed the Tigers in most players picked. Wide receiver Chuck Scott, tight end Jim Popp, and quarterback Kurt Page were Commodores chosen.
Rounding out the offensive squad are the Tennessee tandem of running back Johnnie Jones and guard Bill Mayo, the Florida offensive line combo of tackle Lomas Brown and center Phil Bromley, Auburn offensive guard Jeff Lott, Miss. State tight end Corwyn Aldredge and Georgia place kicker Kevin Butler. Aldredge and Popp tied in the voting for the tight end position.
The   defensive   line   consists of Alabama tackle Jon Hand, Auburn tackle Ben Thomas and Florida guard Tim Newton. Defensive ends chosen include Ole Miss' Freddie Joe Nunn and Florida's Alonzo Johnson. Aub-burn's Gregg Carr teams with Alabama's Cornelius Bennett and Georgia's Knox Culpepper at linebacker. Joining  Dale   and   Hobley   in the secondary are Georgia's Jeff Sanchez and Kentucky's Paul Calhoun. Bennett and Culpepper tied in the balloting at the inside linebacking slot.
Ole Miss' Nunn and Georgia's Sanchez were the top vote-getters, receiving nine votes each. The complete list of All-SEC coaches players are on the back of this page.
