The mission ofthe UK Alurrmi Association is to foster intellectual and           g_  
emotional fellowship through quality services, programs, and benefits and to     ·“° `   I
provide an on-going cormection between the alumni and University commu- ; X   ,/· . `      
nity while developing goodwill, support, and loyalty to the University of   i` E
Kentucky.   '
This 1999-2000 Annual Report demonstrates a number of ways in which  
progress was made toward accomplishing the Association’s mission and ,. 14 ,
achieving the goals established in a new Strategic Plan. I’d like to highlight a  " 1
few of those programs and services: Stan Key
• Maintained a healthy membership of 29,433 dues-paying members, of which 1 1,987 are Life I
Members. Membership dues account for 33% ofthe Association’s $2,000,000-plus budget in
support of programs, services and benefits for alumni;  
• Improved the Association’s communications with alumni through an enhanced quarterly `
Kentucky Alumnus magazine;
• Established a new Student Alumni Association;
• Inducted 20 alumni into the UK Alumni Association Hall of Distinguished Alurrmi at a
banquet attended by almost 500 family, fiiends and associates — a record attendance; and
honored five alumni with Alurrmi Service Awards for their work in support ofthe university,  
the Association and their community; 1
• Recognized six University of Kentucky faculty as "Great Teachers" with a luncheon and a
$1,000 stipend; ‘
• Sponsored 21 student scholarships totaling $50,688; g
• Enhanced the Association’s Web Page to become one of the most popular in the University i
of Kentucky system with nearly 300,000 visits;
• Made available to Association members more than 12,200 basketball and 4,150 football
tickets;
• Conducted more than 300 alumni club events attended by some 6,000 UK alumni and friends;
• Hosted 267 alumni and campus meetings and receptions in the King Alumni House;
• Offered 12 alumni tours with 265 alumni and friends participating in the fun; I
• Assisted in sponsoring college affiliate and constituent group reunions, cook-outs, Home- ]
coming activities, continuing education courses and other events, highlighted by the Lyman {
T. Johnson banquet, celebrating 50 years of African-American Legacy at UK; *
• Conducted five Association National Board of Directors meetings to provide guidance for the .
Association in planning and carrying out programs, services and benefits for alumni;
• Managed the alunmi database, which grew to include 230,980 alumni, 15,835 associates and
86,096 individual donors;
• Circulated more than 600,000 pieces of mail and made more than 1 13,000 address updates; ’
• Maintained affinity partnerships with First USA Credit Card and MCI WorldCom Long :
Distance Telephone Service to provide funds for program growth and development.
