{ " TWO YEARS COURSE IN MINING
I A two years’ course is offered for young men who for any reason
may not be prepared to take the full engineering course of four years,
` but who desire to obtain more than an elementary training in the `
‘ ‘ methods of mining.
I Special information relating to the course will be sent upon appli-
_ cation to the head of the Department of Mines and Metallurgy. Uni-
versity of Kentucky, Lexington, Ky.
_ ` PRACTICAL MINERS’ COURSE ‘·
A short course is offered for practical miners, mine foreman, and
mine managers who desire to improve their knowledge of the principles
that underlie correct mining. This course, which covers eight weeks,
is given in the spring. Details concerning the course are set forth in
a special circular, which may be obtained upon application to the head -
of the department. Persons desiring to take the examinations for Mine Y
Foreman and for Assistant Inspectors of Mines will find the course ,
quite helpful.
‘ EXTENSION WORK '
The purpose of extension is in part to extend the instructional work I
of the Department of Mines and Metallurgy thru the formation and
supervision of local classes in the mining fields for men and youths
employed at the mines, and thru free lectures at mining centers and ` `
other appropriate places; also to disseminate information concerning A
li the utilization of such of the mineral deposits of the state as require
extended investigation in the laboratory for a full determination of _,
their commercial applications. {F
For classes formed in the mining regions a program of studies is
prepared by instructors in the Department. Examinations are held by
representatives of the Department and a certificate is awarded to such
persons as satisfactorily complete the work laid out for them.
