JOSEPH KUC, a member of the plant pathology faculty, is internationally known for his highly promising work in the immunization of plants against disease. GUY DAVENPORT, an English professor who is a Rhodes Scholar and the author of many scholarly books, has been called, "the smartest man in the world today," by a newspaper columnist.
GLENN COLLINS, a member of the Agronomy faculty, is the winner of the top award presented by the Crop Science Society of America for his work in plant genetics.

UK faculty brought to the University and the state last year more than $51 million in research grants and sponsored programs  a valuable resource to the economic development of the Commonwealth. UK ranks among the Top 100 research universities in federal research funding, the only one so-ranked in the state.

 The sociology department received the American Sociological Association's annual award for teaching, the first time this prize has gone to an entire department.
 The College of Education's reading program faculty was judged one of the nation's ten best.
 The cancer research program at UK has been further enhanced by two new modern facilities for treatment and research.
 The Equine Research program, for a long time a research hallmark at UK, has one of the top research facilities in the world, the new Maxwell Gluck Equine Research Center.
 The College of Agriculture is noted world-wide for its development of burley tobacco varieties resistant to the five major diseases affecting that crop, for its research in no-till farming and just recently for the development of Johnstone Fescue, a grass that may save farmers hundreds of millions of dollars annually.
