ATHLETICS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY
The University of Kentucky fields 19 intercollegiate athletic teams under the direction of the UK Athletics Association. The Association is under the supervision of a Board of Directors, which is headed by the UK president in the capacity of chairman.
Officers also include the Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs, Dr. James Kuder, vice chairman; Faculty Chairman of Athletics Dr. Robert G. Lawson, secretary; along with two student representatives and 17 other members drawn from the University faculty and the general public as appointees of the president.
Director of Athletics Cliff Hagan supervises the growth and development of the athletics program.

David P. Roselle President
PRESIDENT DAVID P. ROSELLE
Dr. David P. Roselle was named the ninth president of the University of Kentucky in March 1987.
Dr. Roselle comes to UK from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., where he served as provost four years. The position of provost at Virginia Tech is the number two administrative position at the university, which has more than 22,000 students.
A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Roselle has a Ph.D. in mathematics from Duke University. He has been a mathematics professor and researcher at the University of Maryland and Louisiana State University. He became a professor of mathematics at Virginia Tech in 1974 and held that faculty appointment during his entire tenure there.
He also served as dean of Virginia Tech's graduate school and dean of research and graduate studies.
Dr. Roselle is known as an innovator. At Virginia Tech he implemented a university-wide core curriculum, helped secure increased support for sponsored research and was recognized nationally for his initiatives in computing and information systems.
In 1978, he was recognized by Virginia Tech for his teaching excellence.
Dr. Roselle has held a variety of leadership positions in national mathematics organizations and served as executive secretary of the Mathematical Association of America for nine years.
He has made numerous invited addresses in his field and is widely published as a mathematics scholar. He has been editor of two books and was on the editorial board of a third.
Dr. Roselle is married to the former Louise Dowling of Manhasset, N.Y., and they have a son, Arthur, 16, and a daughter, Cynthia, 15.
