Jimmy Dykes is in his first season as a member of the University of Kentucky coaching staff, having joined the Wildcat ranks on June 8, 1987. Dykes was a point-guard on four of head coach Eddie Sutton's teams at Arkansas, including two Southwest Conference championship squads. During his career at Arkansas, the Razorbacks compiled a 78-15 record.
During the summer of 1984, Dykes played in the Kirin World Basketball Games in Tokyo, Japan.
An honor graduate from Arkansas, Dykes finished his academic career with a 3.6 grade point average and earned his undergraduate degree in Speech and Physical Education. A member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Dykes was a Dean's List student at the Fayet-teville, Ark., school.
A native of Fayetteville, Dykes was a four-sport letter-man at Fayetteville High School, earning three letters in basketball, three in track, two in football and one in cross country as a prep. He was an all-conference basketball player as a senior and was a member of the Arkansas state mile relay champions as a junior.
Following graduation from Arkansas in 1984, Dykes served Sutton as a graduate assistant in 1984-85. The following season he became an assistant coach at Sacramento State University in Sacramento, Calif. Last year, Dykes was an assistant coach at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. Dykes assists Sutton in the areas of on-court instruction, scouting and game preparation.
The 26-year-old Dykes is single.
Roger Harden, the popular point guard on Eddie Sutton's first Kentucky team in 1985-86, has returned to the University as a student assistant coach while he completes requirements for a degree. He joined the Wildcat staff in August, 1987.
The native of Valparaiso, Ind., helped lead the Wildcats to a 32-4 record and a third-place national ranking in 1985-86, setting a new UK single-season assist record in the process. Harden finished the season with 232 assists, breaking the old mark of 188, set by Dirk Minniefield in 1981-82. He earned third-team All-SEC honors as a senior and was named to the All-SEC Tournament team as well.
Harden gained international experience in the summer of 1985, when he was a member of the United States' World University team, which competed in Kobe, Japan.
After completing his eligibility in 1986, Harden was drafted in the fifth round by the Los Angeles Lakers.
As a high school senior at Valparaiso High, Harden earned the prestigious "Mr. Basketball" honors for the state of Indiana, averaging 27.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists that season.
Harden's father, Al, is a vice-president of the Converse Shoe Company.
The 23-year-old Harden is single.
