clearly the necessity as I think of such a road and I regard it as a
disgrace to this and the adjoining counties along the line if they do not

2hth Sunday I attended church in the Morning Elder Redford Preached
we had a fine rain last night which will be of untold benefit to the
Farmers of this county
25th I rode through a Portion of the county today a sheep Hunting
in company with Thos Smith the crops Look badly both Tobacco d corn but
I think the rain will bring them out yet
26th I have been verry unwell today and consequently Remained at ·
home the day has been cool and Showery and for the Lack of something else
interesting I thought I would write down the Following Piece of Poetry
Which suits my Present feelings exactly
Im Treading alone my weary way U
where the hopes of Life lie blighted
Life seems to me but a tinselled Play
By the lamp of folly lighted
But O could I find in the wide worlds Throng
One heart to trust to love me
My heart would send forth a wild glad song
That should reach to the dome above me

Ger Lifes Bright dimpling ocean
Some whirling back upon the tide .
Of Sorrow and commotion

Mr. Kinney spoke in the Morning and made a beautiful speech which for
style and oratory I have seldom seen surpassed After dinner Col Crockett
spoke for about one hour and was followed by the Hon A A Dixon and Mr. Dixon
