affliction taught him the worth of his im ortal anul and that when
seemingly deserted by all his friends there was one friend who would
comfort him in his affliction and save him with an everlasting salva-
tion high up in heaven allthough he like too many put off the day of
his return to god untill a dying hour yet if in that hour he gave
himself to god which I trust he did he found a willing saviour But adieu
Henry on Earth forever no tears of mine could ere recall But oh
may we meet in heaven where no more disease no more death will cause us
to mourn H
lhth Went to Henderson to day in company with G Mitchell a V
pleasant day
15th This has been a beautifull day everything seems joyous and
Happy except Poor mortal man disease and death are arround him war and
Pestilence teach him that life is but fleeting at best and this evening l
one of my neighbors children died with Small Pox no one can go near them
the Father and Mother will have to wait on and Burry their own dead

16th This has been another beautifull day I have been at work on
the farm I commenced ploughing Tobacco land with my mule team to day &c
17th I went to Henderson to day in company with G Mitchell carried up
a load of trash it weighed 1335 lbs this has been another spring day
18th Helped Bennett Marshall roll logs to day this was the first
Rolling I have been at this season
19th I assisted to Burry John Smiths little girl Clara this morning
as I looked on that the face of that little girl in deaths cold embrace
it seemed like a small smile was on its countenance agthough it had met
the grim monster with a welcome smile Oh how sweet to die in infancy and
leave this cold and cheerless earth ere one feels its chilling Breath of
sorrows I went to Mr Haskins in company with E D Powell this evening &c _
to day has been a changeable March day
20th I went to Union Co to day with G Mitchell came home in the
evening and set up with S Latta untill midnight this has been a Lovely A
spring day Received from H A Powell Eighty-five dollars for a yoke of
oxen ` ·
2lst This morning Looked verry much like rain But the evening
has been beautifull I went down to the Steam Mill this morning and to
Dr. Newmans with Phil Kirk in the evening this has been a spring day
indeed all around us we see the vegetation Putting forth and a few more
such days as this and the Peach and apple trees will be in full bloom
I noticed in the woods wild flowers for the first time this evening
22d Sunday I was at B F Martins this morning &c this evening we
had a verry hard rain which will make the ground too wet to Plough for
several days
