30th Went to Corrydon today on Business a very rainy disagreeable _
day with this ends the Month of September it has been a verry bussy
Month with me I have been housing and cutting tobacco all this month and
although not yet done I have got the best portion of my crop in the house
I do not think I ever sas a larger growth or a heavier crop of tobacco in
my life than mine apparently is this Month has been pleasant allthough a
little too much rain has fallen for the tobacco crop and if we have frost
soon it will materially injure both Tobacco and corn and whilst writing
this the wind appears to be getting in the North and I would not be sur-
prised at seeing frost soon Farwell sepbmber thou art gone forever gone
What has passed can never be recalled and although seasons may come and
go the same September can never return any more you have gladened the
Farmers Heart and I part with you with Where will I be at your
annual return Echo answers where
Oct lst I started today in company with G B Martin to Trimble Co
to wait on S B Martin We arrived in Henderson too late for the Packet
and consequently had to remain there all day
2nd Sunday I remained in Henderson all day waiting for a boat a
verry tiresome business indeed especially of a Sunday ‘
3rd We got aboard of the Hoses McLellan this morning about 2 oclock
and started for Louisville as I had been sitting up all the night before A
I went to bed immediately after getting on board and did not wake up untill
we got to Owensboro Ky Owensboro Presents a verry poor appearance from the
river as well as allmost all the other towns along the river but the scenery
along the river is Beautiful a d sublime in some places it appears like the
Ohio was by some Mighty convulsion of Nature scooped out of the solid rocks
again the country appears to be level and rich alluvial Bottoms thus con»
stantly changing the scene to the eye of the beholder
hth We arrived at Portland about two oclock this Morning after a
very pleasant trip of about 2h hours we took a hack from Portland to
Louisville and took Breakfast at the Louisville Hotel I Rambled over
the city untill l oclock and viewed with pleasure the rapid improvement
of the place since I was there before 5 years ago Louisville with her
commanding situation above the falls will Eventually I think be one of
the first cities in the Union left Louisville at 2 oclock today on
